Die Band Malory gründete sich im Jahr 1995 und wurde seit ihrem Debüt "Not Here - Not Now" oft als die deutschen Slowdive bezeichnet, was zwar
schmeichelhaft jedoch nicht ganz fair ist, denn die Dresdner haben dem
Shoegaze-Genre einen völlig eigenen Stempel verpasst. Verspielte
Electronica, breite Melodieteppiche und eben der einzigartig gefühlvolle
Gesang von Daniela Neuhäuser. "Sleeper" vom dritten Album "The Third Face" ist ein Shoegaze-Track für die Ewigkeit mit einem immerwiederkehrenden Topos des Genres - Schlaf und Erwachen - auch wenn die Musiker seit 2010 nichts mehr von sich haben hören lassen. Aber auch andere sind schließlich wiedergekommen und in diesem Fall könnte Malory durchaus gerne Slowdive 1:1 kopieren. Ihre Songs sind jedenfalls immer wieder bezaubernd und wir sind so dankbar,
dass sie bereits zweimal live bei SUBLIME zu Gast waren: 2007 und 2009 - und auch im neuen Jahrzehnt wären wir gerne wieder Gastgeber...

Dieser Song mit dem mysteriösen Titel "Feed The Tree" stammt aus dem umwerfenden Debüt-Album "Star" (1993) der Indierockband Belly aus Boston, auf dem alle 15 Songs großartig ist. Gegründet wurde die Gruppe von Tanya Donelly und die Sängerin und Gitarristin spielte auch in den Throwing Muses oder bei den Breeders. Das zweite Album "King" konnte leider nicht mehr an die Großartigkeit des Erstlings anknüpfen und leider auch nicht das 2018 erschienene "Dove", das nach 23 Jahren Pase per Crowdfunding finanziert wurde. Für die bis heute andauernde Strahlkraft der ersten Belly-Songs steht "Feed The Tree" exemplarisch, eine Metapher über Respekt und Engagement, ein Song, der einen nach all den Jahren immer noch geradezu umarmt.

Im Jahr 1990 erscheint das Debüt-Album der Indie-Dreampop-Band The Sundays: Es heißt "Reading, Writing And Arithmetic" und bezieht sich nicht nur auf die schulischen Grundfertigkeiten Lesen, Schreiben und Rechnen, sondern auch auf die Heimatstadt der Musiker, Reading in Berkshire. Die Koordinaten der Musik sind damit gelegt, britische Melancholie trifft auf einfache, aber wesentliche Melodien. 10 perfekte Songs, zwischen The Smiths-seligen Gitarrenläufen und dem strahlenden Gesang von Harriet Wheeler, den man als "Missing Link" zwischen den Cocteau Twins und den Cranberries beschreiben könnte. All das macht diesen Erstling zu einem kleinen Klassiker und federleichten Juwel und den Track "A Certain Someone" zu einem sublimen Sonntagssong.
